RaceChip and Warranty. Engine Warranty Now Available.

One of the most common questions we get.

Will RaceChip affect my factory warranty?

It is a fair question. Modern vehicles are a major investment and no one wants to take unnecessary risks.

Here is the clear answer.

How RaceChip Works

RaceChip is a plug and play tuning module. It does not overwrite or permanently modify your factory ECU software.

Instead, it works alongside the factory system by optimising sensor signals within safe operating parameters. All OEM protection strategies remain active. Boost control, knock control, temperature safeguards and torque monitoring are still managed by the factory ECU.

The module can also be removed at any time, returning the vehicle to standard configuration.

This is fundamentally different to a full ECU reflash.

When an ECU is flashed, it typically increments an internal flash counter and updates calibration records. Modern dealership diagnostic systems are fully online and connected directly to the manufacturer’s central database. That means any software version, checksum or flash counter discrepancies can be identified immediately.

Within the Volkswagen Audi Group network, detection of non factory software commonly results in what is known as a TD1 flag. This is a manufacturer level status that indicates the vehicle has been tuned.

A TD1 flag does not void your entire vehicle warranty, but it can significantly affect future powertrain related warranty claims, as the vehicle is officially recorded as having modified engine software.

Can a Manufacturer Deny Warranty?

Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer cannot void your entire vehicle warranty simply because an aftermarket product is fitted.

However, they can deny a specific claim if they believe the modification directly caused the failure.

That is where most of the uncertainty sits for customers.

It is not about losing your whole warranty. It is about the possibility of a disputed engine claim.

Our Optional Engine Warranty

To remove that uncertainty, Harding Performance now offers an optional engine warranty for RaceChip customers.

For an additional fee, this warranty provides coverage in the event a manufacturer declines an engine related claim specifically due to the RaceChip module.

This gives you an added layer of protection and peace of mind.

If the worst case scenario happens and a claim is rejected because of the tuning module, you are not left exposed.

It is designed to give customers confidence while still enjoying the performance benefits of RaceChip.

Why We Offer It

We stand behind the products we sell.

RaceChip calibrations are developed with factory safety systems intact. They are not aggressive flash tunes pushing components beyond design limits. They are engineered performance enhancements.

But we also understand that modern warranty processes can be complex.

Offering an optional engine warranty is about transparency and customer confidence.

You get more torque, stronger response and improved drivability. And you have a safety net in place.

The Bottom Line

RaceChip does not automatically void your vehicle warranty.

It is removable. It retains factory protections. It is designed to work within OEM systems.

And now, with our optional engine warranty available, you can upgrade with even greater confidence.

If you would like details on eligibility, coverage limits or pricing for your specific vehicle, contact Harding Performance and we will walk you through it properly.
